100 Things About Monique
I was reminded of this project that I started years ago when I saw it on a fellow blogger (Sadly Normal’s) page. Since I never finished my 100 things, a task given to me by a friend when I was just 19 years old and not really appreciating myself, I thought I would try it again to see if it gets any easier with age.
1. The only thing I’ve always wanted to be in life is a writer.
2. I will go crazy if someone puts my clothes in the dryer.
3. My retirement dream is to teach English in South America, though this is changing as I learn the implications behind such a desire.
4. I have deep abandonment issues.
5. One of the most fun things I’ve ever done in all my life is laying on the bed with my girlfriend, shooting rubberbands at the ceiling fan to see who could shoot the most between the blades.
6. The only time I wear white socks is if I go to the gym.
7. I’m struggling to stop using commercial products for my skin and hair.
8. I have a tendency to pick a CD and listen to it incessently, sometimes for years at a time.
9. I’m an only child, but I think I defy the only-child stererotypes – of course!
10. I thought about being a computer engineer once, I couldn’t get past precalculus/trigonometry (I don’t think I can even spell it!)
11. My favorite book of all time is The Color Purple. It also happens to be my favorite movie.
12. I can make a mean peach cobbler and red velvet cake.
13. My mother used to kick me out of the kitchen when I was a kid because I was a disaster. I couldn’t even boil water.
14. My favorite wine is the red Guntrum with Sin Zin running a close second.
15. When I was a kid, I knocked my two front teeth out playing with my aunt.
16. I was quarterback of the powderpuff team in high school.
17. I was a hurdler in high school (I still can’t see them without welling up with tears).
18. I have a weakness for smart people, muscians, and poets. And if you’re an intelligent, poetic muscian… look out!
19. I realize now why I never finished this exercise. I’m struggling to get to 25.
20. I used to collect “Chocolate Babies”, little porcelin figurines as a kid. My mom named them that.
21. My mother calls me Hanna. Confuses the hell out of everyone.
22. I absolutely love Betty Boop, anything Betty Boop.
23. My favorite hat is this beanie I call my popcorn hat, but I can’t remember why I call it that.
24. I am an amateur photographer. I developed my first picture this year.
25. I cry at everything: commercials, movies, made for tv dramas, batmitzvahs, everything.
26. I had a serious shopping addiction to Target. I have since been banned from the store.
27. There are a few things that will cause me to lose track of hours at a time: Sex, blogs, a good book, good food, good conversation or any combination of the aforementioned.
28. Me’shell Ndegecello is a goddess to me, and I would gladly worship her.
I wrote poetry at her feet when I saw her in concert. That’s powerful.
29. I snore like a 18-wheeler if I’ve had one too many cocktails.
30. I had C Cup breasts when I was 14-years-old.
31. I’m moving overseas in a few months and the thing that’s stressing me out the most: How many books from my bookshelf can I realistically take?
32. I hardly ever put my clothes away after I do laundry.
33. I am usually carrying at least two books with me. If I’m not, I’m either going to the movies or someplace i might have to run from quickly.
34. I can’t take a good picture phone pic to save my life. I don’t know how the picture phone models do it!!!
35. I sleep in only my chonies.
36. I got a sewing machine, books, thread the whole works a while ago and have yet to stitch a thing.

I just wanna say, Mo’Nique, that you are an inspiration to me (a “BIG” girl)! And I absolutely love your book….It hits home on a lot of issues. Just want to say THANKS!
